Anahata with her guitar
Anahata Iradah

Anahata Iradah is a senior teacher in the Mentor Teacher's Guild of the International Network for the Dances of Universal Peace. She is a versatile and gifted musician, teacher, composer, songwriter, meditator, DVD author and documentary film producer. The revered Buddhist teacher Shinzen Young has been her personal guide in the path of Vipassana meditation. With his encouragement she has combined the Dances of Universal Peace and Buddhist meditation techniques and teachings. Anahata's deep interest in the spiritual paths of the earth has led her to many interesting places, experiences and people. Currently Anahata lives 6 months of the year in the United States and 6 months in Brasil, where the openness and joy of the Brasilian people constantly dissolves and challenges the conditioning of her British upbringing. The quality that most stirs her heart, is the attribute of kindness.

When Anahata picked up her first musical instrument at the age of seven she was sure that she had entered the angelic realms.
She has been transporting people there ever since, through her ministry of music and dance.

Born and raised in England, she received advanced diplomas from the London College of Music before heading for the United States. There she was introduced to the Dances of Universal Peace, a tradition that celebrates the unity of religions ideals through simple circle dances using the sacred words of the world's great religious traditions.

Over the past twenty years she has made great contributions to this tradition. As a musician, she has arranged recorded, notated and composed many of the treasured songs that accompany the dances. As a teacher she is known for her depth, versatility and humor. Having absorbed the background of the dances, she leads her circles into the profound atmosphere of each culture.

As a core member of the Mentor Teacher's Guild, she has developed comprehensive curriculum to assist her "mentees" in developing their own dance-leading skills.

Ever seeking to broaden her personal experience she graduated from the Healing Light Center Church in Glendale California where she studied to be a natural healer. She received her certificate of Ministry from this Church.

Working closely for many years with Shinzen Young, a respected Buddhist scholar and meditation instructor, she has incorporated the profound teachings of Buddhism into her work.

Inspired by the brilliance of the Sufi path she became a Semazen in the Mevlevi tradition, the whirling dervishes, guided by Jelaluddin Loras in the direct lineage of Rumi.

She studied to be a film composer at UCLA which became excellent preparation for her work in producing a series of video and DVD documentaries. The subject matter ranges from the Dances of Universal Peace, the Mandala Dance of the 21 Praises of Tara Dance and other spiritual transmissions including the profound work of Atum O'Kane. She has over 20 documentaries and 25 CD's in her discography.

Becoming interested in citizen diplomacy through music and dance, she co-led a group of pilgrims to the Middle East in 1993. The delegation met with refugees, spiritual and political leaders and offered the Dances wherever they went.

She continued to develop the idea of Pilgrimages of Peace with Prema Dasara. They brought groups twice to North India and Nepal and one group to South India. This was followed up with another pilgrimage to Brasil which opened the way to the next 10 years of training in the Dances of Universal Peace. In 2013, the second 5 year training will reach it's conclusion and will mark the end of this part of Anahata's career. What she hopes will follow is time dedicated to explore "Essences of Enlightened Mind" through the Dances and Meditation.

In April 2013, Anahata will lead an international Dances of Universal Peace delegation to India and Nepal.

Anahata teaches with gentleness and openheartedness. Her music and the poetry of her understanding leads her students into the breadth and depth of the human heart.

Treat yourself and a friend to a workshop, pilgrimage or some of her enchanting music and amazing DVD's.
